Kansas University’s surging soccer team has received its first-ever national ranking from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Kansas, boasting a 14-4-1 record, is ranked 21st is this week’s NSCAA poll.

“It’s nice for the players to get recognized for the hard work they have put in,” coach Mark Francis said.

The ranking comes on the heels of the Jayhawks’ 14th win of the season, a 2-1 victory at Michigan. The Wolverines qualified for the Elite Eight in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

Kansas received votes in the NSCAA poll during the 2001 season, the last season the Jayhawks qualified for the NCAA Tournament, but KU never has been ranked in the Top 25.

Kansas wraps up the regular season against Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. Friday at SuperTarget Field.
