John Lawrence Krehbiel

Mr. Krehbiel died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Pretty Prairie, the son of John R. and Elizabeth (Albright) Krehbiel.

He grew up in Pretty Prairie, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Bethel College in Newton and earned a master’s degree from Kansas University.

Mr. Krehbiel taught math and history and coached football and basketball for many years in Sylvia and Inman. He also worked in insurance sales for Mutual of New York in Omaha, until retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He married Mary Alice Yust In 1939 in Sylvia. She died June 25, 1999.

Survivors include a son, John L. Jr., San Ramon, Calif.; a daughter, Rose Marie Krehbiel, Lawrence; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The family suggests memorials to the Stroke Group at Lawrence Memorial Hospital or Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.
