Kansas’ Haylock wins tennis opener

? Kansas University’s Emily Haylock beat Nebraska’s Leslie Harvey, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the second round of the main-draw singles portion of the ITA Women’s Tennis Regional Tournament Thursday at the Eccles Tennis Center.

The KU doubles team of Haylock and Kristen Steinbock received a first-round bye and will take the court today.

KU’s duo of Brittany Brown and Christine Skoda were defeated by New Mexico’s Michelle Heidbrik and Tiffany Robertson, 8-4.

Brown and Skoda will be placed in the doubles consolation bracket, which will begin play today.

“Emily played really well today,” Kansas coach Amy Hall said. “We are excited about the rest of this tournament because we feel that we can play with anybody.”
