Trains strikes combine, kills 63-year-old

October 23, 2003

— A 63-year-old man died after the combine he was driving was hit by a train in eastern Kansas.

Larry L. Storrer, of LeRoy, was crossing a railroad track about 11 a.m. Tuesday three miles south of LeRoy when a Union Pacific train hit his combine, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

"It just appeared that he crossed in front of the train," said Master Trooper Mike Thweatt. "For what reason, I don't know. He just pulled out in front of the train."

The train's engineer, George K. Allen, 54, of Webb City, Mo., was not injured.

LeRoy is in Coffey County, southeast of Burlington.
