Ernest J. Johanning

? Services for Ernest J. Johanning, 92, Worden, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, north of Worden.

Mr. Johanning died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 22, 1911, near Worden, the son of John William and Isabelle A. (Wrede) Johanning. He was raised in the Worden area and attended Central School 64 in rural Douglas County.

Mr. Johanning was a dairy farmer for more than 50 years in the Worden area. He was also a carpenter in Baldwin. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. He was a member of Farmer Co-op, Kansas Farm Bureau and was also dairy chairman for the Douglas County 4-H Free Fair and a 4-H community leader.

He married Clara J. Hunsinger on Oct. 10, 1937, in Douglas County. She died Feb. 15, 2003.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Chaney, St. Louis, and Marilyn Mitchell, Overbrook; a sister, Sophia Beaman, Lawrence; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
