Celeb pheasant event scheduled near Downs

? The David Segui Celebrity Pheasant Hunt, a trap shoot as well as pheasant hunts for selected youth and women, is scheduled Nov. 22-23 at Waconda Lake.

Several professional athletes and other celebrities will participate as mentors to novice hunters.

Morning hunts will be limited to approximately 25 youth and women hunters on those days. The hunters will be chosen from a drawing.

All interested youths ages 11 to 15 and women are encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants must have completed an approved hunter education course, and hunters 16 years and older must possess a Kansas hunting license.

An adult guardian should accompany each young hunter, but if this is not possible, one of the athletes or sponsors will adopt the hunter for the day.

Professional athletes scheduled to attend are baseball players David Segui and Larry Bigbie of the Baltimore Orioles, and retired NFL football players Mark Arneson, Ricky Siglar, Mel Gray and Jerry Holloway.

Turkey-calling champion Ralph Anderson will also attend.

Other public events scheduled include an open free trap shoot at Glen Elder State Park visitor center and an evening dinner in Beloit.

Applications are available at several area sporting goods dealers, at Wildlife and Parks’ Glen Elder Office or by visiting the Waconda Lake Association website, www.waconda.com. The deadline is Nov. 1.

The event is co-sponsored by Waconda Lake Association and Wildlife and Parks.
