Soccer: Jayhawks struggle against Buffaloes

The Buffaloes extended their lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute as Orly Ripmaster scored off a pass from Katie Griffin.

The Jayhawks (11-4-1, 3-3-1) responded in the 88th minute when freshman Holly Gault booted an unassisted goal, but they couldn’t score again.

KU was a player down after freshman Danika Erickson received a red card in the 21st minute.

“We have to credit Colorado. They finished their chances every time they had one,” KU coach Mark Francis said.

“I think the altitude was a factor — and the fact we played with 10 players most of the game. We scored late, but by then it was not enough.”

The Jayhawks will travel Sunday to Lincoln, Neb., for a 1 p.m. match against No. 16 Nebraska.
