Baldwin’s 46th annual Maple Leaf Festival is this weekend.

The festival was inspired by the late Ivan Boyd. Boyd, a noted Baker University biologist, noticed that the third weekend in October was the best time to view the changing colors of the maple leaves and to celebrate the harvest and the community.

A parade will be at 11 a.m. Saturday downtown. The theme is “Let Freedom Ring.”

More than 300 arts and crafts booths, food vendors and free live country and bluegrass music will be at the festival.

The festival is also home to the largest quilt show in Kansas, displayed at Baldwin Elementary School. The display is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
