Wildcats edge Chargers

? Sophomore quarterback Neil Erisman scored on three touchdown runs in De Soto’s 27-14 high school football victory Friday over Santa Fe Trail.

Junior Leif Goleman rushed for 132 yards and scored on a 65-run.

Santa Fe Trail (1-5) was led by Lance Boss, who completed TD passes to Jake Marquart and Ryan Griffin.

“We are making progress. We’re an inexperienced team,” SFT coach Dave Watkins said. “We did some good things, threw the ball decent in the second half.

“We have to build on that.”

Santa Fe Trail will play host Friday to Baldwin.

Wellsville — The Eagles’ defense had 10 sacks of Spring Hill’s quarterback.

Wellsville (1-5) held Spring Hill to minus-34 yards rushing. The Eagles’ offense was led by Kellsey Currin, who scored on touchdown runs of one, eight and six yards.

“It’s been that way all year long. Our defense has been fabulous,” Wellsville coach Bill Oshel said. “The key is as long as you are playing hard, you can play defense.

“Defense has kept us in games. We may have moved it better tonight (on offense). We’re getting better. We’ve played pretty good ball all year long, hung in against some pretty decent teams and given them all they’ve wanted.”

The Eagles will entertain Yates Center Friday in Wellsville.

Valley Heights — Freshman Ryan Swallow gained 79 yards on 20 carries in McLouth’s road loss. Jimmy Steffey scored the Bulldogs’ lone touchdown off an eight-yard pass from Kevin Stewart.

The Bulldogs (0-6) travel to Troy Friday night.
