Smith sparks KU to 2-0 win at ISU

? Kansas University topped Iowa State, 2-0, in soccer Friday at the ISU Soccer Complex.

“We played very well tonight,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “I think we worked hard and really deserved this win.”

The Jayhawks (10-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 Big 12 Conference) broke a scoreless tie in the second half when Caroline Smith notched her 12th goal of the season in the 75th minute off a pass from junior Amy Geha.

Smith, a sophomore from Edina, Minn., scored again just two minutes later off a pass from fellow sophomore Jessica Smith to put KU up 2-0.

Caroline Smith’s 13 goals this season breaks the team record of 12, which she set last season.

Two goals were enough for junior goalkeeper Meghan Miller as she made six saves on the night and earned her sixth shutout of the season.

KU travels Sunday to Columbia, Mo., to take on Missouri.
