Holton comes back to clip Topeka Hayden in 4A

? Jared Morris rushed for 147 yards, and Holton came from behind three times to beat Topeka Hayden, 34-21, to win the Class 5A state title Saturday.

Holton (13-1) won the championship after two previous championship-game losses, including a 52-27 loss to Hayden in the 1998 game.

Hayden (12-2) held leads of 7-0, 14-8 and 21-20.

After Hayden took its final lead on a 43-yard reverse by Blake Bueltel with 3:40 left in the third quarter, Holton answered with an eight-play, 55-yard scoring drive, capped by Nick Allen’s six-yard scoring run.

Hayden threw its third pass interception of the game three plays later, and Holton put the game away with an eight-play, 40-yard drive.

Conway Springs 40, Silver Lake 7

Emporia — Darrin Seiwert rushed for 142 yards and one touchdown as Conway Springs beat Silver Lake to win its third straight Class 3A state title. Conway Springs (14-0) completed its third consecutive undefeated season and has won 41 straight.

Silver Lake (12-2) lost to the Cardinals in the title game for the second straight year.

Pittsburg-Colgan 40, Garden Plain 7

Hays — Caleb Farabi accounted for 253 yards as Pittsburg-Colgan beat Garden Plain for the 2-1A state title. Colgan (14-0) won its fourth consecutive state title and state-record 54th consecutive game.
