Harlan Ray ‘Harley’ George

No formal services for Harlan Ray “Harley” George, 64, Lawrence, are planned. His body will be cremated after visitation Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Mr. George died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at his home in Lawrence after an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 18, 1939, in Savannah, Mo., the son of Edward B. and Myrtle C. (Frazier) George.

He had lived in Lawrence for the past 20 years, working as a meat cutter for Safeway and Food Barn grocery stores. He previously had owned a butcher shop in St. Joseph, Mo.

Mr. George was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

He married Judy A. Anderson on Oct. 17, 1992, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Jeff George, St. Joseph, Mo., and Michael Gordon, Lawrence; three daughters, Shelly Walker, Lawrence, Rhonda Wilson, Savannah, Mo., and Becky Hodge, Houston; two brothers, Bob and Gene, both of Savannah, Mo.; three sisters, Mildred Johnson, St. Joseph, Mo., Martha Merritt, Savannah, Mo., and Susie Joslin, Miami, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will meet them from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the home of Martha Merritt, 301 S. First, Savannah, Mo.

The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation, sent in care of the funeral home
