Red Raiders rout Knights

? Texas Tech knew it would take tough defense and strong rebounding to handle Rutgers in the championship game of the women’s Preseason NIT.

The seventh-ranked Red Raiders had plenty of both and easily defeated the 15th-ranked Scarlet Knights, 73-45, Sunday.

“We knew we were going to have to do a great job on the boards,” said Casey Jackson, who led Tech with 10 points and 19 rebounds.

“Coach (Marsha) Sharp told us before the game that there would be plenty of rebounds available, so we went out and crashed the board hard,” she said. “As for me, I was just in the right place at the right time.”

The Red Raiders (4-0) held their fourth consecutive opponent under 50 points and ran away from their second straight Top 25 rival. Tech defeated No. 18 Cal Santa Barbara, 68-41, Friday night.

Tournament MVP Jia Perkins led Tech in scoring with 15 points.
