Calvary Temple Assembly of God

All the church families and friends are invited to attend a Thanksgiving dinner following the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace. Due to Thanksgiving, services will be canceled Sunday and Wednesday. All regular services will resume Nov. 30.

Christ Covenant Church

A Christmas craft sale and tea will be today at Christ Covenant Church, 2312 Harvard Road. The craft sale is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free. Tea will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $4 per person.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway, will join other churches of the Lawrence Association of Evangelicals for a Thanksgiving Celebration at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 21st and Harper streets. The event will feature a potluck dinner, a speech by U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Kan., and activities for children.

No evening service will be held Wednesday at the church. The first and second worship services will be joined at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 30.

First Baptist Church

The chancel choir and children’s choir of First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive, will open the holiday season with a performance of Randall Thompson’s “Psalm of Thanksgiving” at 7 p.m. Sunday. This full-length cantata musically illustrates Psalm 107, a thanksgiving psalm. The performance is free and open to the public.

First Christian Church

November is food drive month at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky. Members may pick up bags at the church’s welcome desk and fill them with food items. Bags should be returned to the hall outside the church office by the end of the month. They will be delivered to Penn House Dec. 6.

First Church of the Nazarene

A community Thanksgiving dinner will be at noon Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

A 1940s Christmas musical drama, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” will be presented at 6 p.m. Dec. 7. The setting for the show is the Big Band Era.

First Presbyterian Church

The chancel choir of First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will sing Handel’s “Coronation Anthem II” with orchestral accompaniment at both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services.

Hanging of the Greens will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday to decorate the church in preparation for the Advent season. Children’s activities will begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by a soup supper at 4 p.m.

Evening worship starts at 5 p.m. Sunday.

First United Methodist Church

The annual Thanksgiving dinner will be at 12:15 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Participants are asked to bring their own table service. The event will feature a complete turkey dinner.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

Under the theme “Bring People into a Living Relationship with Jesus Christ,” Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets, will conclude its fall stewardship emphasis with consecration services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Rick Twenhafel, of Nortonville. A congregational dinner will follow the service.

Lawrence 2nd Ward

Elder Lanny Outcalt will report on his mission to the Chile Santiago East Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the Sunday sacrament meeting of the Lawrence 2nd Ward, 3615 W. 10th St. Services are at 9 a.m.

Outcalt is a 2000 Baldwin High School graduate and attended Kansas State University before his mission. He plans to continue his education in Utah.

He is the son of Pat and Sue Pouliot, of Baldwin.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., will have its annual Thanksgiving dinner Sunday. The meal, which will include turkey and all the trimmings, will begin following the 9:30 a.m. service and will continue to be served until 1 p.m.

A mini-concert featuring two bell choirs and two children choirs will be between the 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services.

An evening of song and praise will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Casual attire is encouraged.

Redeemer Lutheran Church

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave., will have its annual Thanksgiving dinner at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Smoked turkey and ham will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a vegetable, salad or dessert.

A Thanksgiving Eve service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The Prayer Development Team will meet today after the 7 a.m. men’s breakfast and Bible study at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The church’s children will give a special presentation of the song, “Manna in the Wilderness” at the 9 a.m. Sunday service. The youth group will have a movie night after the 5:30 p.m. service.

A Thanksgiving Eve service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Canned and non-perishable goods will be collected to distribute to those in need.

Trinity Episcopal Church

The Sunday morning adult forum at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., is titled, “Kenya Project: Part Two,” and will be presented by Zane Wilemon. Receptions will follow both Sunday services in celebration of the completion of the successful stewardship campaign. Carolyn Simpson, campaign chairwoman, and the stewardship committee will be thanked for their work.

Trinity Teens will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday for dinner and activities.

Thanksgiving will be celebrated with a service of Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Trinity Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Lutheran Campus Ministry will join for a Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran, 1245 N.H.

The Rev. Jeff Lilley of Good Shepherd will preach, and a combined choir will sing. A fellowship time with dessert will follow the service, which is open to the public.

Marie Rubis Bauer, Trinity Lutheran’s minister of worship and music, is the United States representative to the International Congress on Organ in the Liturgy in Fatima, Portugal. The conference is a gathering of architects, liturgists, organists, organ builders, publishers and scholars from around the world.

Tickets are on sale Sunday for the Women of Trinity’s “Tannenbaum Celebration” Dec. 6. The event will feature a German meal and a bake and craft show.

Cost for the meal is $12. 50 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under 5. Tickets are sold through the church office, 843-4150.

West Side Presbyterian Church

Dedication of stewardship pledges will be offered during morning worship Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive.

This will bring the “Time to Share” theme to fruition for financing the work of the church in the coming year.

An all-church potluck will be at noon Sunday in the fellowship hall, followed by the annual Hanging of the Greens in preparation for the Advent season.

The church’s “2 Cents for Hunger” donations will be received through the end of November.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will have a harvest program from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The annual Harvest Potluck Dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
