Get ready for some roller coaster weather.

For the next couple of days, you can get by with wearing T-shirts, shorts and sandals.

But by Sunday afternoon, you’ll have to pull out the heavy coats and scarves — the first snow of the season is heading this way along with single-digit wind chills, says Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist.

“Don’t let the warm weather fool you, because it is going to change,” Janssen said.

Westerly winds coming in from the Rocky Mountains will bring the high to 68 for Wednesday, he said.

“Temperatures will be about 15 degrees above normal today and about 20 to 25 degrees above normal tomorrow,” he said. “The record high for tomorrow is 79 and we’re forecasting 74. . . .It will be feeling more like spring than a week prior to Thanksgiving, that’s for sure.”

On Friday afternoon the high will reach 70, but a cold front will move in, shifting the wind around to the north and east, he said.

“Saturday there will be a system sliding across the Plains that will bring some thunderstorms,” he said.

Saturday morning’s low will be about 49, under partly to mostly cloudy skies.

If you’re heading out to Kansas University’s home football game against Iowa State Saturday afternoon, you might bring along a rain poncho.

“I think most of the KU game will be dry. Toward the end of the game and toward the evening there’s a 30 percent of scattered thunderstorms,” Janssen said.

The rain will probably end Saturday night and Sunday will be dry during the morning, he said.

“Then by midday Sunday and Sunday afternoon, we’re looking for rain that will mix with snow,” he said. “Then it should go to all snow by Sunday evening. . . . It could reduce visibility if the snow does get heavy enough.”

Temperatures on Sunday afternoon will hold steady into the 30s, with windy conditions, he said.

Janssen said the snow would probably melt as it fell.

“With the unseasonably warm conditions we have now, we’ll see little to no accumulation because the ground is gong to be warm,” he said. “It will take a lot of snow to get it to accumulate. Snow showers should stick around until Monday morning, when the temperature will be about 18.”

The cold temperature combined with winds out of the northwest at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts, will make it seem much colder, he said.

“There will be some pretty dangerous wind chills,” he said. “The wind chill will be single digits early Monday morning.”
