Bill Self hasn’t tipped his hand on Kansas University’s starting lineup for Friday’s season opener against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

“Not yet, not yet,” junior guard Michael Lee said of Self, KU’s first-year hoops coach, revealing his opening five for the 7:05 p.m. contest at Allen Fieldhouse.

“I’m not worried about starting. I’m just excited about the season tipping off. We’ve gotten a lot better as a team at practice,” said Lee, KU’s sixth man a year ago.

Self discussed his lineup plans Tuesday during a half-hour online chat on kusports.com.

“I can’t tell you who will start, but I can say five of the players will come from the seven of Wayne Simien, Jeff Graves, David Padgett, Aaron Miles, Keith Langford, Jeff Hawkins and Michael Lee. That’s what we’re (aiming) toward right now,” Self said.

Collison here Tuesday: Former KU forward Nick Collison will have his jersey hung in the rafters at halftime of Tuesday’s KU-Michigan State game. Collison, a first-round pick of Seattle’s SuperSonics, earned the honor by being named NABC national player of the year and a consensus first-team All-American. Collison is missing his NBA rookie season because of surgery on both shoulders.

Seeing red: Self was asked when KU would wear its new red jerseys during games.

“Nike hasn’t gotten them to us yet, and I’m not sure when we’ll use them, but when we do it will probably be a surprise,” he said. “A lot of places are doing this and we definitely have three different school colors, and we will use the red on various occasions. I’m a pretty superstitious guy, so don’t expect that to be a common occurrence.”

Seating plan: Self was asked to comment on changes being made to the future seating policy in Allen Fieldhouse, which will involve a points system.

“I don’t understand, personally, all the changes that are taking place, but I have great confidence in our leadership and believe that there are some things that have to be done in order to give us the best chance to compete, not only in basketball but in all sports,” he said. “One thing we have to do is generate revenue, but it is not intended to be done to people who have been very supportive of and loyal to the university, but policies have to be put in place to generate as much money as possible and also to take into consideration the generosity of fans over time.”
