  • For what is believed to have been the first time since Memorial Stadium was expanded in the early ’60s, Kansas has had two official sellouts in one season. Although many empty seats were evident Saturday, all the tickets were sold and the crowd was pegged at 50,107. Earlier, the Jayhawks had an announced sellout of 50,071 for the Missouri game. Curiously, the MU and NU contests also are the only KU games that have been on live television.
  • Freshman free safety Jonathan Lamb, who notched his first career interception last week at Texas A&M, made it two games in a row when he stole a Jammal Lord pass midway through the second quarter. Lamb also took over the team lead. Six other Jayhawks have one interception apiece.
  • Defensive tackle and co-captain Travis Watkins, who missed the first nine games because of a broken foot, suited for the first time and participated in the coin flip, but did not play.
  • Jerod Brooks, a walk-on from Ottawa via Butler County CC and now the Jayhawks’ designated short-field-goal kicker, booted a 20-yard field goal just before halftime for KU’s only points. Brooks made his KU debut last week at A&M, when he kicked the extra point after the Jayhawks’ last TD.
  • Kansas was penalized three times for personal fouls on the Huskers’ abortive drive late in the third quarter, and KU was hit was another personal foul on NU’s next possession. Nebraska also had personal-foul woes. On the afternoon, the Huskers were hit with three of the 15-yard penalties.
  • Kansas was two-for-two losing the ball at the Nebraska one. First, it was Barmann’s interception, then with about four minutes remaining John Randle fumbled just before he reached the goal line and NU linebacker Barrett Ruud recovered.
  • Nebraska’s Josh Bullocks, the NCAA leader in pass thefts, made his ninth theft of the season in the third quarter when a Barmann pass bounced off Mark Simmons’ pads and Bullocks caught the ball while on the ground.
  • Reserve I-back Cory Ross, who led the Huskers in rushing with 108 yards, is a younger brother of former Kansas wide receiver Roger Ross.
  • With six receptions, Charles Gordon surpassed Willie Vaughn for the most receptions by a KU freshman in a single season. Gordon has 41 catches.
  • KU has now dropped 35 games in a row to Nebraska, the second-longest streak in NCAA Division I-A. Notre Dame extended its dominance over Navy to 40 games with a 27-24 win Saturday.
  • Jon Bible of Austin, Texas, was the referee in charge of the Big 12 officiating crew.
  • Kickoff temperature was 38 degrees under cloudy skies with a 12 mph wind out of the east.
