Grace M. Steele

? Services for Grace M. Steele, 91, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ottawa Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Dean Cemetery in Franklin County.

Mrs. Steele died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at her home.

She was born Nov. 20, 1911, in Andrew, Iowa, the daughter of William Arthur and Flora Bell (Gotshall) Menneke. She moved often with her family as a child. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1929. After she married, she lived in Garden City from 1933 to 1944, when she moved to a farm in Franklin County. She moved to Ottawa in 1989.

Mrs. Steele was a homemaker. She was a member of Ottawa Church of the Nazarene, Appanoose Baptist Church and its women’s group, as well as Beacon Light Extension Homemakers Unit.

She married Robert Wayne Steele Sr. on June 15, 1933, in Lawrence. He died Feb. 26, 1993.

A son, Harlan Steele, a grandson and a great-grandson also died earlier.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Steele Jr., Pomona, and Richard Steele, Ottawa; a daughter, Delores Smith, Casper, Wyo.; a sister, Florence Richards, Burlington, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to Ottawa Church of the Nazarene, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
