Former official arrested on traffic violations

? Former Kansas City Councilwoman Carol Coe was arrested for traffic violations and warrants after she was pulled over for driving with unregistered license plates.

Police said an officer in a patrol vehicle behind Coe’s car noticed the registration sticker was curled at the corners. The officer checked the license plate and found it was last registered in 2002.

Coe was arrested after the officer discovered four outstanding traffic warrants: one for driving while suspended, one for speeding and two for unpaid fines.

The officer wrote three new tickets for driving while suspended, having an improperly displayed license plate and failure to provide proof of insurance. Coe was released on $1,450 bond.

Coe served on the Jackson County Legislature in the late 1980s and on the City Council in the early 1990s. She pleaded guilty in 1996 to three misdemeanor charges of filing false reports in her campaigns for city office and was ordered to repay $15,000 in campaign funds used for personal trips, rent, utility bills and lawyer license fees.
