KU men place 7th

? Kansas University’s men’s golf team shot a three-round total of 876 to place seventh in the 15-team 2003 Prestige tournament Tuesday on the par-72 the La Quinta Resort Mountain Course in La Quinta, Calif.

“Overall it was a tough day to play because of the windy conditions,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “We managed to end the tournament with a pretty good score in the third round.”

The Jayhawks finished 17 strokes behind champion UCLA, which shot an 859. TCU (860) was second, and BYU (861) placed third.

Andrew Price shot a 71 Tuesday to tie for 14th with a three-round total of 217. Kevin Ward tied for 22nd place at 220. Gary Woodland tied for 33rd with a 222, Tyler Docking tied for 47th place at 226 and Ryan Rainer finished in a tie for 57th after a three-round total of 230.

“We played well enough to pass one team in the final round,” Randall said. “It was a good field of teams in this tournament and to finish seventh is not too bad.”

Kansas will begin its 2004 spring season Feb. 16-17 in the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
