CU’s Bloom pondering skiing career

? Colorado receiver Jeremy Bloom said the team’s disappointing season will not be a factor when he decides whether to come back next year or concentrate on his skiing career.

Bloom, an Olympic skier who waited until June to announce he would return for his sophomore season, said the decision will be made “sooner rather than later.”

Colorado is 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12 Conference.

Through nine games, Bloom has 13 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown and has rushed six times for 39 yards. He also has a kickoff return for a touchdown, but his season, like his team’s, has been frustrating.

Bloom said he would determine whether another season of football would “set me back” in training for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy.

“I’ve gone through this two years now,” Bloom said, “and it’s hard for me to understand, because I feel like physically, I’m in a position where I could play the rest of my time here and still be in a good position for the Olympics — if I had the resources and was able to fund a coach.”

Bloom has sued the NCAA, which has said he can’t keep his skiing revenue and remain eligible to play football.
