Colder weather ahead

You might want to bring something besides tickets to tonight’s Jayhawks exhibition basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse.

“Grab a coat and stocking cap,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

By the 7:05 p.m. tip, temperatures will be dropping down to about 40 degrees, Sayers said.

Lawrence got a trace of rain early Tuesday morning, but most of the isolated storms passed through to the east, he said.

Temperatures are expected to fall throughout the day and will continue to drop into the upper 30s during the Kansas University men’s basketball game with EA Sports, he said.

The thermometer will continue to plunge throughout the night, finally reaching the freezing point for the first time this fall.

“I’m expecting it to be 32 when you wake up tomorrow morning,” he said.

Wednesday’s skies will be mostly sunny, with the high reaching 47, he said.

Temperatures will fall again Wednesday night and reach a low of 31 by Thursday morning. Thursday’s skies will be partly cloudy, with the temperature reaching a high of 46.

The low will reach 29 degrees early Friday morning. Friday’s high will be 48 under partly cloudy skies.

“So if the frost doesn’t get those plants tonight, they’ll be gone by the end of the week,” Sayers said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 33, with clouds increasing during the day, and the high reaching 55. There’s a 20 percent chance of rain late Saturday night, he said.
