KU nursing school to honor top nurses

Kansas City, Mo. — Tickets are now on sale for the 13th annual “Nursing: The Heart of Healthcare” banquet Nov. 7 in Kansas City, Mo.

The event, sponsored by the Kansas University school of nursing, will be at the Westin Crown Center Hotel. A reception begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Larry Moore, news anchor of KMBC-TV in Kansas City, will serve as master of ceremonies.

The annual event recognizes outstanding nurses in Kansas and the Kansas City metropolitan area. This year’s 10 winners were selected from more than 350 nominations.

ROTC professor to speak at Veterans Day program

A Kansas University professor of naval science will be the keynote speaker during this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony in Lawrence.

Capt. Rich High, an instructor in the Navy ROTC program, will speak when the ceremony starts at 11:11 a.m. Nov. 11. The program will be at the Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, 3408 W. Sixth St.

In addition to the American Legion, the ceremony also is being sponsored by Jayhawk Chapter No. 22 of the Disabled American Veterans and Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
