Hollywood star fits Ford to a T

Gumbel to co-host new PBS show

New York — Bryant Gumbel is coming back to broadcast television. This time, he won’t have to set his alarm clock.

Gumbel, the longtime “Today” anchor who quit CBS’ “The Early Show” a year ago, will be co-host of a new PBS show, “Flashpoints USA,” that will air four times a year.

The series, which will originate from the Washington-area WETA, will begin July 15 by examining how the country is balancing its homeland security with its freedoms of expression.

Gwen Ifill, a “NewsHour” correspondent and moderator of “Washington Week,” will be Gumbel’s co-host on the show.

Since leaving CBS last year, the 54-year-old Gumbel has been seen only on his HBO series, “Real Sports.”

Steve Friedman, Gumbel’s producer at both “Today” and “The Early Show,” will also work on “Flashpoints USA,” the Public Broadcasting Service said Friday.

Ozzy makes it a family act

London — Ozzy Osbourne will share a bill with his daughter, Kelly, for the first time this summer, the musician’s Web site says.

Osbourne, above right, will perform two shows in England as part of a European tour this fall. Kelly Osbourne, 18, above left, will open for her father at both shows.

“I couldn’t be happier about doing my own dates in the U.K. and having Kelly on the bill with me,” the 54-year-old heavy metal rocker said Friday on his Web site.

Osbourne will perform Sept. 5 in London and Sept. 7 in his hometown of Birmingham in central England.

After a career marked by wild excess, Osbourne found new fame with MTV’s “The Osbournes,” a reality TV show about the foul-mouthed, larger-than-life family. The show also has made stars of his wife, Sharon, and their teenage children Kelly and Jack, 17.

Kelly Osbourne has launched her own music career with a cover of the Madonna single “Papa Don’t Preach” and an album titled, “Shut Up.”
