Smith services

Services for Alice E. Smith, 92, Eudora, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, after which a reception will be at 3:30 p.m. at Lawrence Friends Church.

Ms. Smith died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born May 13, 1911, in Lawrence, the daughter of Jay and Grace (Cox) Smith. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1929 and attended Kansas University for a year.

Ms. Smith worked in the candy department of F. W. Woolworth’s for seven years before moving to Weaver’s Department Store, where she worked from Feb. 15, 1937, to Feb. 15, 1986. She was a lifetime member of Lawrence Friends Church, where she was pianist from 1928 to 1947. She also was a retired member of the Autumn Club of Lawrence.

Survivors include four nephews, James W. Vincent and Loring Henderson, both of Lawrence, Charles D. Vincent, Wellsville, and Jay Henderson, Kensington, Md.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to service time Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the church or the charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the funeral home.
