Robert Quinn Rohde

Mr. Rohde died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Midland Hospice House.

He was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Neodesha, the son of Paul H. and Edith Quinn Rohde. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence, in 1935, and received a bachelor of arts degree in English from Kansas University in 1939.

Mr. Rohde served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He owned and operated Rohde’s Antiques in Topeka. He was appointed to four terms on the Kansas Arts Commission — longer than any other commissioner. He was a 15-year member of the board of directors of Mid-America Arts Alliance, served a term in the Kansas Silver-Haired Legislature, two terms on the Kansas Humanities Council and a term on the Kansas Film Commission. He was a founding member and first president of Sons of the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin chapter, southeast Kansas. He was also a member of Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas, AARP, Kansas Society Sons of the American Revolution, Neodesha Chamber of Commerce, KU Alumni Association, Spencer Museum of Art, Concerned Citizens for Topeka Inc., Mid-America Arts Alliance and Mulvane Art Museum. He was a Mercy Hospital Foundation donor.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
