Topeka: Victim identified in fatal hit-and-run
Investigators have identified a man who was hit by a vehicle and killed while walking his dog in Topeka.
Fredrick Windmeyer, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
A 21-year-old man was arrested in a wooded area near an abandoned, damaged pickup truck. The man has not been charged.
Authorities said Windmeyer’s dog, Molly, had not been seen since the accident.
Topeka: Newton publisher takes Capital-Journal post
The editor and publisher of The Newton Kansan has been named editorial page editor for The Topeka Capital-Journal.
Douglas Anstaett, a Kansas native who grew up in Lyndon, will begin his new duties July 7.
He has been in the newspaper business for 30 years. During that time, he was a reporter at newspapers in Pittsburg and Topeka, held management positions at newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota, and became editor and publisher of the Kansan in 1987.
