George Newton Chaffin

? Graveside services for George Newton Chaffin, 85, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kan.

Mr. Chaffin died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

He was born July 25, 1917, in Springfield, Mo., the son of Timothy and Edith (Clark) Chaffin.

Mr. Chaffin was a linotype operator and printer. He had worked for the Kansas City Kansan and owned Dormois Type Shop, both in Kansas City, Kan.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Lions Club International in Kansas City, Kan. He was a Methodist.

He married Vivian B. Miller on June 20, 1942. She died in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Gwen Vassar, Tonganoxie; a sister, Ruby Orrick, Kansas City, Kan.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

A son, Raymond Kent “Skip” Chaffin, died in 1994.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie.
