KU alumnus to compete today on Jeopardy!

A Kansas University alumnus today is back on the television game show “Jeopardy!.”

Mark Brown, 38, Peoria, Ariz., is competing in the show’s tournament of champions, which began last week. Last year Brown, a 1987 KU alumnus, appeared on five “Jeopardy!” shows and won $68,094 and a 2003 Jaguar. He couldn’t comment on what happens on today’s show before it aired.

Brown is married to Diana Brown, a 1986 Lawrence High School graduate. Her parents, Forrest and Margaret Bookout, live in Lawrence.

Jeopardy! can be seen at 2:30 p.m. today on KSNT, Sunflower Broadband Channel 8, and at 4 p.m. on KCPT, Sunflower Broadband Channel 5.

Free State’s victory in High Q aired

Free State High School claimed this year’s championship trophy in a series of scholastic television game shows.

The show, called High Q, was a product of WIBW television in and Washburn University in Topeka. The final competition was actually a month ago, between Free State and Shawnee Heights High School of Topeka. It was replayed twice Sunday on WIBW.

Free State’s team brought home a large trophy cup with the school’s name engraved on it. “It was pretty exciting,” said Oather Strawderman, an instructor and coach.

Members of this year’s team were: Alan Sheu, junior; Austin Rivera, sophomore; Ivan Sheu, junior; Nathan Markham, senior and Matt Schwabauer, senior.

The students answer questions about literature, art, history, math and science.
