Three Jayhawks win at ESU qualifier

? The Kansas University track and field squad had three event winners Friday at the ESU Twilight Qualifier at Emporia State.

Junior Monique Peters won the long-jump competition with a leap of 19 feet, 8.25 inches, qualifying for NCAA Regionals.

Sophomore Brooklyn Hann won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.93 seconds, then finished second in the triple jump at 42-3.25. Freshman Yvonne Calzonetti was second in pole vault at 12-4, and freshman Angela Pichardo and sophomore Arrah Nielsen finished 2-3 in the 800-meter dash in times of 2:13.37 and 2:14.11.

Junior Leo Bookman won his third 200-meter dash in as many weeks at 20.89 to lead the Jayhawk men. Freshman Mike Mehring placed third in the pole vault at 15-01.00, freshman Cameron Schwehr took fifth in the 1,500-meters in 3:52.90, sophomore D.J. Hilding placed fifth in the 5,000 meters at 15:31.90, and freshman Aaron Thompson came in sixth in the 110 hurdles at 15.36.

The Jayhawks travel May 17-19 to Austin, Texas, for the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
