K.C. options Berger to Omaha, activates Affeldt

? The Kansas City Royals activated pitcher Jeremy Affeldt from the disabled list before Tuesday night’s game and optioned outfielder Brandon Berger to Triple-A Omaha.

Left-hander Affeldt, who started Tuesday night against Boston, had missed 13 games with a blister on his left middle finger.

Affeldt (2-1) took the loss in a 7-3 setback to the Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium.

He surrendered an earned run off five hits over four innings. Affeldt struck out six and walked none.

Berger had three RBIs and was batting .219 in 13 games with the Royals.
