Glass atop leaderboard at PBA Senior event

? Lawrence’s Bob Glass is in first place after Monday’s first two rounds of the Professional Bowlers Assn. (PBA) Senior Chillicothe Open at Shawnee Lanes.

Glass, a two-time Senior Player of the Year (2001 & 2002), averaged 235.75 and knocked down 3,772 to lead the 168-man field. The top 32 return today for single-elimination, best-of-five match play.

“Qualifying is over now,” the 53-year-old Glass said. “It’s all match play, and where you qualified doesn’t make a difference. It only matters who you face in match play and if you can win your games.”

The six-time PBA senior winner will face Chuck Pierce in the first round of match play today.

“Last year was a struggle for me,” Glass said. “I feel better about my game this year. I have made some changes in my equipment and my game. But I have a hard time in matches — it’s tough on me.”

Match play continues this afternoon with four rounds culminating in the $8,000 first-place match tonight.
