Love: Need bassist, ‘no boys’

Los Angeles — Female rockers searching for their dream job need look no further. Courtney Love has placed a full page advertisement in Los Angeles’ alternative weekly paper L.A. Weekly and New York’s The Village Voice, seeking a female bassist or guitarist to rip it up onstage as a member of her new touring band, reports E!Online.

Love’s ad reads: “Women required for International Rock Revolution . . . Join Courtney Love’s touring band and get famous, see the world.”

Love then lists other requirements, as well as her group’s influences.

“Must play bass or guitar (really play), and look like a Goddess,” the ad goes on.

Another requirement of the ad: “No boys.”

Poll: Shatner Beatles cover worst

Former “Star Trek” star William Shatner’s version of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” has been voted the worst Beatles cover of all time, reports BBC Online.

The erstwhile Captain Kirk beat out Pinky and Perky, who did a version of “All My Loving,” and “Pop Idol” stars Will Young and Gareth Gates with “The Long and Winding Road.”

Viewers voted in a poll last week for digital TV channel Music Choice to mark the 40th anniversary of The Beatles’ first No. 1 hit, “From Me to You.”

Rounding out the Top 10 are: Damon Hill — “Drive My Car;” Bananarama with French and Saunders — “Help!;” Jim Carrey — “I Am the Walrus;” Wet Wet Wet — “With a Little Help from My Friends;” Suggs — “I’m Only Sleeping;” PM Dawn — “Norwegian Wood;” Candy Flip — “Strawberry Fields Forever.”

Ben and Jen buy island getaways

Hampton Island, Ga.– Actor Ben Affleck and his actress-singer fiancee, Jennifer Lopez, have bought two houses on one of Georgia’s last undeveloped barrier islands, Hampton Island.

The purchase prices were not disclosed.

The houses, both 10,000 square feet, are newly constructed but designed to look rustic.

The 2,300-acre island 35 miles south of Savannah was bought recently by Atlanta developer E. Wade Shealy for $16 million and will be developed as a low-density, luxury community.

‘Bull Durham’ stars still plan visit to Baseball Hall of Fame

New York — Tim Robbins will visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, even without an invitation from the Hall’s president.

Robbins and Susan Sarandon, two stars of the popular film “Bull Durham,” discussed their snub by the Hall of Fame on HBO’s “On the Record With Bob Costas.”

Robbins and Sarandon were scheduled to appear in Cooperstown, N. Y., to commemorate the anniversary of the film’s release. But hall President Dale Petroskey canceled the event because of the couple’s statements protesting the war in Iraq.

Robbins said he’d accept an invitation to go to Cooperstown, but that wasn’t necessary.

“Absolutely. But I’d go before that just to go with my kids,” he said. “I love Cooperstown and I encourage people to go there.”
