Smith leads KU to 6-1 rout, 0-0 tie

? Kansas University posted a 6-1 soccer victory over the University of Iowa and tied the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 0-0, Saturday at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

The Jayhawks improved to 1-2-2 in the spring.

In the first game, KU freshman Caroline Smith scored four goals, and sophomore Rachel Gilfillan added a pair of goals. The four goals gave Smith six of the Jayhawks’ nine goals this spring.

In the second game, the Jayhawks couldn’t capitalize on their scoring opportunities, settling for a scoreless tie.

“We played very well in both games,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We missed on a couple of chances in the second game and I think that was because we were getting tired. Everyone got to play a lot so that was good.”

The Jayhawks will play host to the KU Spring Tournament April 6 at SuperTarget Field. In the three-team event, KU will face Creighton at 11 a.m. and play Oral Roberts at 3 p.m.
