Local photographs displayed at United Way

The United Way Center for Human Services is displaying an ongoing exhibition of photographs by members of the Lawrence Photo Alliance.

More than 60 works by 16 artists are on display in the second-floor hallways of the center, 2518 Ridge Court. The building is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Baldwin City Theater issues audition call

Baldwin — The Baldwin City Community Theatre will hold auditions for its summer musical, “Bye Bye Birdie,” from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 6 at the theater, 816 High St., Baldwin.

Call-backs are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 8.

Those wanting to audition should bring either sheet music or obtain specific pieces available at the Baldwin City Library. Specific audition songs include:

  • “One Boy,” Kim and teen girls
  • “Put on a Happy Face,” Albert
  • “What Did I Ever See in Him,” Rose
  • “One Last Kiss,” Conrad Birdie
  • “Kids,” Mr. McAfee and adult chorus

The show will run June 20-22 and June 26-28. Rehearsals will be on weekends and in the evening.

Free State graduate lands leading role

Lauren Parsons, a 2001 Free State High School graduate, recently performed as Maggie in the Broadway musical “A Chorus Line” at the University of Northern Colorado.

Parsons is majoring in musical theater at the Greeley, Colo., university.

She was a dancer/singer in “Carousel,” a vampire in “Miranda’s Nightmare” and has danced in the university’s choreographer showcases.

Parsons is the daughter of Teresa and Mike Treanor, Lawrence, and Brad and Sharon Parsons, Lawrence.
