Forsee on job at Sprint

Sprint Corp.’s new chief executive Gary Forsee says restrictions placed on him by an arbitrator will not hamper his ability to lead Sprint.

“I’m in charge,” Forsee said Tuesday from Sprint’s Overland Park headquarters.

Forsee, the former No. 2 executive at BellSouth Corp., replaced William T. Esrey, who was forced out by Sprint’s board over its concerns about his use of a questionable tax shelter.

Among the restrictions placed on Forsee is that he can’t participate in any discussions about potential mergers or asset sales for 12 months.

Forsee, 52, said Tuesday that Sprint would put in place a process involving “internal resources and board resources” that would allow merger and acquisition discussions to take place without him.
