Koerner services

Services for Louie Henry Koerner, 91, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Koerner died Friday, March 21, 2003, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born June 28, 1911, near Eudora, the son of Henry and Mary (Ziegler) Koerner. He attended grade school in Fall Leaf and Eudora High School, where he was active in sports, especially football. He moved to Lawrence in 1940 and returned to Eudora in 1994.

Mr. Koerner farmed with his wife and worked for area farmers before he moved to Lawrence. He then worked for Lawrence Paper Co. for 35 years before retiring. He was active in Assembly of God churches in Williamstown, Lawrence, Tonganoxie and Eudora. He was a member of Eudora Historical Society and caretaker of Delaware Cemetery in Eudora, where his family is buried.

He married Wilma Longacre in 1930. She died in March 1996.

Survivors include a son, Harry, Topeka; two daughters, Vivian King and Maxine Falley, both of Nixa, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A son, Kenneth, died in 1969, and a grandson died in 1971.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Monday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests memorials to Eudora Assembly of God Mission Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
