Topekan injured in motorcycle wreck

A Topeka man was injured Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle struck another rider’s motorcycle west of Lawrence.

Neal L. Highsmith, 42, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a hospital nursing supervisor said.

Highsmith was traveling northwest in a line behind two other motorcyclists when the wreck occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on County Road 458 near Diagonal One Road, a Douglas County Sheriff’s report said. Highsmith was riding a 1999 Harley-Davidson.

The two motorcycles in front of Highsmith were slowing to turn around after missing an intended turnoff, the report said. Highsmith’s motorcycle struck a 1999 Indian Chief motorcycle driven by Rodney Stiner, 42, Topeka. Neither Stiner nor his passenger, Danielle J. Stiner, 39, Topeka, were taken to a hospital, officers said.
