William Kennedy among PEN/Faulkner nominees

? William Kennedy’s “Roscoe,” the latest of the author’s affectionate novels about his native Albany, was among the nominees for the PEN/Faulkner award.

Kennedy wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Ironweed” and several other Albany-based books, including “Legs” and “The Flaming Corsage.”

Other nominees announced this week were Peter Cameron’s “The City of Your Final Destination,” Victor LaValle’s “The Ecstatic,” Sabina Murray’s “The Caprices” and Gilbert Sorrentino’s “Little Casino.”

Previous winners include Philip Roth, Don DeLillo and Michael Cunningham. This year’s prize will be announced May 17 in Washington, D.C., with the winner receiving $15,000 and finalists $5,000 each.
