Veteran K.C. broadcast executive dies

? Earl Beall, a retired Kansas City broadcast executive, died Thursday night in his sleep. He was 69.

Beall began his broadcast career in 1960 in sales at WDAF radio. He became local sales manager in 1965, then general sales manager in 1969. In 1972, he left Kansas City to become general manager at WDAF-TV’s sister station, WGR-TV, in Buffalo, N.Y.

He returned to Kansas City in 1976 to assume the role of vice president and general manager of WDAF radio. Two years later he rejoined WDAF-TV as vice president and general manager.

Beall oversaw installation of the Royals baseball network in 1980. He retired in 1991.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer’s funeral home in Overland Park. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cure of Ars Catholic Church.
