Darrell E. Haynes

? Graveside services for Darrell E. Haynes, 83, Russell, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Russell City Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240.

Mr. Haynes died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Gardiner Hospice House in Phoenix.

He was born Aug. 9, 1919, in Dallas, the son of Fred J. and Lillian V. (Shindhelm) Haynes. When he was 6 years old, he moved with his family to Russell. He graduated from Russell High School in 1937.

Mr. Haynes earned a degree in business administration from Kansas University in 1941. He entered the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving from 1942 to 1947, and earned the rank of captain.

He was an independent oil producer and owner of Haynes Oil Co. until his retirement in the late 1970s. He also owned a ranch and raised Angus cattle.

Mr. Haynes was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Elk’s Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240 and the Russell Shrine Club.

He married Betty Lou Sublett on Nov. 8, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Fred, Phoenix; and a daughter, Kathy Haynes, Lawrence.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Pohlman’s Mortuary in Russell.
