Builder agenda?

To the editor:

It is not surprising to find developers and contractors such as Doug Brown writing in to condemn City Commission candidates who might rein in the developers’ build anything, anywhere approach. But it is novel to hear the “build anywhere” supporters claim they dislike smart growth because they have suddenly become advocates for affordable housing and fear becoming “another Boulder.”

Now we see clearly. The proposals for a second Wal-Mart next to Free State High and for other sprawling, unplanned growth out west are actually careful strategies to prevent Lawrence from becoming a more attractive place to live! The build anywhere agenda finally makes sense.
