Thunderstorm in forecast for Lawrence area

Take advantage of Wednesday’s sunny skies and warmer temperatures while you can — they could be washed out later in the day.

There’s a 40 percent chance a thunderstorm might rumble in by the late afternoon, says Matt Sayer, 6News meteorologist.

“It looks like the greatest chance for the severe weather will be south and east of us. But we’re still borderline potential,” Sayers said.

Temperatures were expected to zoom up to 64 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

The forecast for Wednesday night calls for temperatures to drop to 36, with north winds, 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies in the morning, then clearing, with highs around 66 and light and variable winds.

Thursday night’s forecast calls for mostly clear skies, with lows in the mid 40s and south winds 5 to 10 mph.

Friday is expect to be mostly sunny, with highs reaching into the mid 70s and south winds 10 to 20 mph.

There’s a 20 percent chance for rain on Saturday, with highs in the lower 70s. Saturday night’s low will be in the lower 50s.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms increases to 30 percent on both Sunday and Monday, with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the 50s.
