Broad blame

To the editor:

This letter is in response to the letter written by T.Q. Warrens, proclaiming that the problems we face in the 21 century are firmly grounded in the Clinton years.

Face it, people hate us! The reasons they hate us are not always clear, but they hate us nonetheless. We support ruthless governments with horrific civil rights records for financial or geopolitical gain! We watch children starving and think nothing of it. We sit in our easy chairs and wonder why the rest of the world despises us. Well, no wonder people hate us!

We can excuse any atrocity for the sake of financial or political gain. No other country in the world wields as much financial or military might as the United States but as far as morality goes, we stink! We’re so busy categorizing everyone as either a liberal or conservative that we forget to be Americans and just good neighbors. We sat idly by while the rest of the world was falling apart around us.

You sit safely in Baldwin and ride out our present situation in complete comfort. If you really want to assign blame take a long look at yourself. Because T.Q., we’re all to blame for 9-11.

Scott Stiefel,

Lawrence
