Harrison’s triple-double lifts Buffs over Huskers

? David Harrison had 20 points and 10 rebounds and set a school record with 11 blocked shots as Colorado beat Nebraska, 84-69, Saturday night to improve its chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament.

Harrison last had a triple-double against Stetson Nov. 24, when he became the second player in school history to accomplish the feat. He set the school record with 10 blocks in that game.

Stephane Pelle added 21 points and 11 rebounds as Colorado (19-10 overall, 9-7 Big 12 Conference) won for the fourth time in five games and extended its school-record home winning streak to 12 games.

The Buffaloes finished 14-1 at home — 8-0 in conference — to break another school record and have their most wins since going 22-10 in 1996-97, the year of the school’s last NCAA Tournament berth.

Nebraska (11-17, 3-12) lost for the 11th time in 13 games and dropped to 2-12 on the road to finish last in the Big 12. Andrew Drevo and Nate Johnson had 19 points each to lead the Cornhuskers, who shot 38 percent and had 15 shots blocked.

Nebraska’s first possession ended when Drevo had the ball knocked off his foot out of bounds. It didn’t get much better from there.

The Cornhuskers missed nine of their first 10 shots and had just three points in the first five minutes.

Nebraska repeatedly tried to challenge Harrison in the early going, but it didn’t work. The 7-foot center blocked three shots in the first eight minutes, including one that bounced back off Brennon Clemmons’ head, and had five in the first half.

Harrison had his way on the other end as well, overpowering the smaller Cornhuskers for 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the half.

Chauncey Billups’ triple-double on Dec. 2, 1995, was the last one by a Colorado player before Harrison’s pair this season.
