Jane Austen descendant to give lecture at KU

A descendant of Jane Austen who is an award-winning author in his own right will give a sneak preview of his upcoming book on Austen during a lecture Monday at Kansas University.

Richard Jenkyns, professor of the classical tradition at Oxford University, will speak on “A Park with a View: Jane Austen’s Mansfield” at 4 p.m. in the Centennial Room at the Kansas Union. Jenkyns is Austen’s great-great-great-great nephew.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Austen lived from 1775 to 1817. Some of her best known novels are “Sense and Sensibility,” “Pride and Prejudice,” “Mansfield Park,” “Emma” and “Persuasion.”

Mystery writer to sign books at The Raven

Mystery writer Carolyn Hart will read from and sign her newest book, “Engaged to Die,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Raven Bookstore, 6 E. Seventh St.

Hart is the author of many mysteries featuring Annie Darling. The event is free and open to the public.
