Pierce back on bench

? Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce, the fourth-leading scorer in the NBA, missed Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers because of a sore back.

Pierce strained his back when he slipped on ice and fell outside his house last month.

The former Kansas University All-American played in two games and then missed two, snapping a streak of 257 consecutive regular-season games.

“He’s not in the building,” Celtics coach Jim O’Brien said before the game. “He’s getting treatment. We’ll look at him on a daily basis.”
