Letter: Fireworks fan

To the editor:

Where is this country’s patriotism, why can’t we use fireworks? We all should be allowed to set off fireworks on the Fourth of July. Maybe kids under 12 could have someone responsible such as a parent watch them. To make it safer, people could water their yards on the Fourth of July. We could also splash some water on the roof of our houses to help have fewer fires.

I’m not accusing anyone, but a lot of times it is the fault of whoever lit the fireworks for not getting far away. So many businesses will have extra fireworks and will be out of business. Lots of fireworks will be going to waste in the stands. What should we do on the Fourth of July? Just sit around and watch TV? I want to be out there shooting off fireworks.

Canceling the Fourth of July will ruin people’s parties and all they worked to do on them. What about “the rockets red glare and the bombs bursting in air?” That is coming straight out of our national anthem. Why should we give up what those before us fought to defend? I think we should not give up the triumphant victory on the Fourth of July.
