The morning low here was 8 degrees, the wind chills dropped far below zero and a new 5-inch covering of snow further complicated daytime activities in the Lawrence community. Weather observers said Lawrence was making a good run at the 1962 winter snowfall record of 32 inches.

Chancellor Strong of Kansas University received notice this morning of his election as an honorary member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity of Yale University. Yale men who have become eminent in scholarship and education are eligible to gain honorary membership in this fraternity. … It is a pity not to admit Oklahoma as a state in the union but it is a narrow escape from having New Mexico and Arizona.
