Pro-war coverage

To the editor:

A recent letter-writer complained that the pro-war stance wasn’t getting enough coverage, and that the thousand or so protesters represented a small minority.

To begin with, has he had any trouble hearing President Bush’s views? Does the Journal-World miss any of the press releases coming from the White House? Something tells me not. The great thing about being hawkish in the current environment is that you don’t have to do a darn thing. Just sit back and let George and his friends handle the whole thing. Why, they’d even be happy to let you know what it means when governments overseas ignore the will of their people to agree with him. But I digress.

Perhaps the people in the march didn’t represent most of the folks in Lawrence, but they were, by no means, all of the peace-loving ones, either. The day was cold, and people have busy lives. For every person I talked to at the march, I talked to a few others who said they wished they could have made it. I’m also not counting the fence-sitters and those who figure there isn’t any use protesting; nobody is going to listen. Do I think we have a majority? Maybe not, but I don’t think the hawks do either.
